GMO monitor Slovenia

Background

In August 2006, Slovenian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food prepared a proposal of the national Act on coexistence of GM crops with other agricultural crops.
Institute for Sustainable Development has organised and co-ordinated input of numerous Slovenian NGOs within the Coalition for Sustainable Rural Development* into the proposal. The aim is to set binding and strict rules concerning the coexistence of GM crops with conventional and organic crops.

*Coalition for Sustainable Rural Development is a coalition of 21 NGOs and one regional park working on issues related to agricultural and rural development policy, organic farming and Natura 2000. It was established in the beginning of 2006 and co-ordinated by the Institute for Sustainable Development.
